We are looking for a talented technical writer to join our freelance team to create technical publications for agricultural and construction vehicles.
The position involves authoring service manuals and troubleshooting information in an Arbortext XML authoring application. Basic product photography skills and the use of CAD models are used to generate illustrations for the manuals.
The role requires an ability to perform product research using various source files, bills of materials, engineering drawings, CAD models, and conversations with engineers and other stakeholders to pull together information for the manuals. This can also involve disassembling parts and vehicle assemblies in the shop, tracing fault code symptoms, and other hands on work to develop instructions and illustrations for the manuals.
The products and documentation involve a wide range of technologies, including a variety of electrical controls and sensors, large mechanical/automotive power train assemblies, touchscreen interfaces, automation and computer controls, and hydraulic systems.
Two or more years technical writing experience
Research experience with engineering source materials, BOMs, drawings, and CAD models
Experience authoring in a markup language, such as XML
Experience with Adobe illustration tools
Basic mechanical ability to disassemble and reassemble components
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic concepts
Strong experience in electrical/electronic vehicle systems to draw up parts related to troubleshooting and testing of components
Ability to communicate the safe use of tools and equipment for operators and technicians
Experience with construction, automotive, mining, heavy equipment, or other mechanical products or technologies is highly desired
