In our pursuit of positively transforming the social-emotional well-being of 100 million children annually by 2028, Committee for Children is looking for an experienced editor to join our team! In this freelance role, you will edit, proofread, and QC content for a hybrid print/online elementary school curriculum, which may include lessons, teacher and student materials, UX microcontent, videos, scripts, closed captioning and video screen text, social media, and/or product-related marcomm content. The editor will work on content both in and outside of a content management system (CMS) and will also collaborate with the full editorial team to ensure continuity of voice, style, UX language, and brand across products. Although most of the work will be at the copyediting level, some developmental editing may be necessary.

This is a part-time (average 20+ hours per week) 1099 independent contractor role anticipated to last for approximately six months. Due to Covid-19, all staff is working remotely.

Primary Responsibilities Include

Performs developmental, copy editing, and proofreading on components of a digital curriculum for elementary students, both in and outside of a CMS
Collaborates with a product team to create user-friendly, effective, and pedagogically sound curriculum materials
Collaborates with the product editor to ensure in-product messaging, UX/interface copy, navigational nomenclature, and other digital content is clear, consistent, and inclusive within and across products and that in-house styles for UX and microcopy are followed
Ensures content changes are consistent with established standards and guidelines
Helps marcomm editor review materials related to their assigned product for accuracy and consistency with product terminology and content
Becomes knowledgeable and proficient in correcting content within the CMS
Performs other tasks as assigned

Must be able to provide UBI number or DBA documentation
Must be able to provide own equipment and supplies
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a 4-year accredited college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
4+ years of experience with web publishing, content management systems, and basic HTML; Markdown a plus
4+ years’ freelance or in-house editing experience
Experience working on an Agile team preferred
Experience in EdTech or working on a digital product preferred
UX writing experience a plus
